Cannan / Rameka Big Day Out

This would have to be the ultimate in mountain biking trips!

Our day starts with a scenic van trip around  the Tasman Bay, stopping off in Motueka for Coffee before heading on up the 980m Takaka hill to Canaan Downs, remembering that what goes up ... must come down!

From the summit we mount up and ride the Canaan Downs loop track, taking in scenes from the Hobbit as we go. We ride through the farmlands, Native bush gullies, Log Cities where you can ride the logs, and finally down through the meandering Gold Creek loop ending up at the Harwoods Hole Car-park for lunch (provided). After we eat our lunch and relax taking in the surroundings there is time to explore a sink hole or two before we set off on our ultimate 900m descent through the Rameka 6-pack of tracks.

We start with the Rameka Track itself, riding on a long traverse through the pristine native forest before an exciting descent on the staircase to emerge from the bush to stunning views out over Golden Bay. Next we drop into the "Pack Track" an odd mixture of flowing track with a few sections of off-camber marble to keep you honest, this track gets faster and bouncier the further on you go and the last section is a blast of berms and jumps.

We regroup briefly before heading into the "Rameka Project" tracks The first is the historic Rameka trail that flows into the long descent through the pine forest that is "Great Expectations" which takes us all the way down to the valley floor. But its not over yet! Two fun technical tracks called "Two Klick" and "One Klick" will have you going from "Oh Hell" to "Oh Wow" on a regular basis as they try and trick you with their natural surprises. - This is one of the boss's favorite pair of tracks, and you will probably find him encouraging you to ride back up the road and do them a second time!

We finish with a ride out to out transport at Takaka and stop for a drink before heading back over the hill to Nelson. If we have time there might be a pleasant surprise on the way
